MULTIMETAL SURFACES CORROSION PROTECTION BY VCI TABLETS & SACHETS USES AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Protected Surface with VCI
Tablet weights are about 0.90-1.10 Gr / tablet and each tablet is active on approximately 0.5 m2 surface. If the surface to be protected is more than 0.5 m2 (even in small increments) the second tablet should be used for protection. On copper, brass and other copper alloys surfaces, 8 angstrom film tickness (ultra-thin) formed therefore the protection area is about 1 m2 surface per tablet for these surfaces applications. For very sensitive surfaces protection, double dosage must be used. In case of bulk packaging, VCI concentration requirement must be calculated as 60 mg / liter. VCI sachets are more economical in bulk package protection applications. In very hot areas; the amount of molecules passing into the vapor phase will increase therfore the packing materials must be selected accordingly. KIMETSAN VCI Tablets and Sachets performs ideal when used together with moisture absorbent sachets. Tablet Activities are at least 5 years when protected in thermally well sealed packages (if these sealed packages have even mikroporous permeability properties, then the tablets sublimation will be faster due to loss in vapor phase). Protection starts in the first 30 seconds and a film forms on metal surface in Angstrom thickness which is not visible. After the formation of protective film on the surface, the reaction of molecules stops in vapor phase. However, the reaction starts again in the surface film damage. Therefore, as long as sufficient concentrations of VCI exist in vapor phase, the protection is continuous. The film (formed by vapor phase reaction) covers and protects the metal surface well.
Tablet distance to the metal surface should not exceed 35 cm. for maximum protection. When the distance is closer, the protection is faster. Tablets contain min. 96% Active VCI and packed as 50 pieces/glass bottle. The packages must be stored between -25 °C to 40 °C. As the tablets are in equilibrium in vapor phase the packages should be stored in places as cool as possible.

VCI streches are also produced. In VCI Tablet and VCI Sachet applications there is no need for using VCI streches at the same time as the evaporated VCI adsorbed by the strech film. This is the practical way of the application.
